YG Entertainment has officially introduced Chanya, a 14-year-old Thai trainee, as the second member of their upcoming girl group NEXT MONSTER. The group’s name may change, but it’s currently using this name, as they will be following BABYMONSTER’s debut.
The announcement and monthly evaluation video, made on June 16, 2025, follows the reveal of the group’s first member, Evelli, last month. Like her bandmate, she covered a song from a Western artist and absolutely nailed it. For those unversed, Evelli covered Doechii’s ‘Nosebleeds.’
Meet Chanya from NEXT MONSTER
Chanya, whose full name is On Chanya, joins NEXT MONSTER as the group’s main vocalist. She showcased her talent through a soulful cover of Olivia Rodrigo’s “the grudge” in her introduction video.
Born in Thailand on November 25, 2010, she has trained at YG Entertainment for two years and eight months. The 14-year-old NEXT MONSTER trainee is fluent in Thai, English, and Korean.
Her performance and mature vocal tone, surprising for her young age, remind K-pop fans of YG’s existing “Thai line” of artists. It includes talented BLACKPINK’s Lisa and BABYMONSTER’s Pharita and Chiquita.
Here’s some key information about Chanya
- Full Name: On Chanya
- Birthday: November 25, 2010
- Height: 5’6” (168 cm)
- MBTI: INTJ
- Nationality: Thai
YG’s Strategic Rollout for NEXT MONSTER
The group, tentatively named NEXT MONSTER, is planned as a four-member ensemble with a focus on international appeal.
Last month, YG founder Yang Hyun Suk confirmed the group’s pre-debut strategy. Yang praised the trainees and plans to release their solo songs ahead of NEXT MONSTER’s debut next month.
YG will reveal the performance video of Chanya as well, similar to Evelli. The label shared a performance video of the Australian-Nicaraguan trainee dancing to “Get Loose” by Agnez Mo on June 10.
After a tumultuous financial year, YG Entertainment is ambitiously planning to expand its roster of global acts. It has relied on the success of BLACKPINK for so long, and now plans on introducing new groups in the coming years.
With two members revealed, YG is expected to introduce the remaining two trainees in the coming weeks. At the end of the introduction video of Chanya, the label announced that the remaining members will be revealed later this year.
