G-Dragon made headlines online after he was seen liking an Instagram post shared by aespa’s Karina. The post featured the aespa member in a long white dress near the sea and quickly gained over 1.5 million likes.

Among them was G-Dragon, whose “like” sparked a debate among fans on platforms like Twitter and Korean online communities.

Karina launched her personal Instagram account in May 2023 and has already surpassed 5.4 million followers by August. Her posts regularly attract high engagement, which usually features fashion photos and behind-the-scenes updates.

While some fans speculated about the like, others noted that G-Dragon often likes posts from various idols, including juniors like NCT DREAM, and even non-celebrities. In past months, he had been active online despite a relatively quiet professional period, following solo and BIGBANG’s group hiatus.

Since June, multiple sources have reported that G-Dragon has parted ways with YG Entertainment following the end of his contract. Last year, BIGBANG organized as a trio with GD, Taeyang, and Daesang, and released a digital single, Still Life.

G-Dragon has been on solo hiatus since the release of his highly successful album, Kwon Ji Yong (2017).

Meanwhile, aespa, the group Karina belongs to, prepares for the release of their English-language single “Better Things,” which will drop on August 18, 2023. Leading up to the release, the group shared teaser content and a short web sitcom.

They are also in the middle of their “Synk: Hyper Line” world tour, performing at major venues including Tokyo Dome in early August. aespa is scheduled to kick off the U.S. segment of their world tour with a performance in Los Angeles on August 13.
