The 67th Annual Grammy Awards nominations have been announced, and notably, no K-pop artists have made the list.
For another year, K-pop artists have been once again overlooked by Grammy despite releasing some standout music.
The Grammy 2025 nominees were unveiled through a live stream on its official YouTube channel on November 8 (local time).
The most-nominated artists this year included Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, Post Malone, and Kendrick Lamar.
On the other hand, fans were disappointed as no K-pop artists were nominated this year. Like the previous year, many renowned K-pop acts, including BTS members, BLACKPINK’s Lisa, TWICE, Stray Kids, and LE SSERAFIM, submitted their works for Grammy 2025 nominations.
BTS members RM, Jungkook, Jimin, V, and J-Hope submitted their best-selling release for consideration in multiple categories.
- RM’s 2nd full album “Right Place, Wrong Person”
- Jungkook’s debut album “Golden,” title track “Standing Next to You,” and “3D” (ft. Jack Harlow)
- V’s digital single “FRI(END)S”
- J-Hope’s “HOPE ON THE STREET VOL.1”
- Jimin’s 2nd mini-album “MUSE” and title track “Who”
On the other hand, Lisa entered her hit solo singles “ROCKSTAR” and “New Woman” (ft. Rosalía) for consideration.
TWICE and Stray Kids submitted “with YOU-th” and “ATE” respectively. Plus, LE SSERAFIM’s “CRAZY” and Yunjin and Max’s song “Stupid in Love” were in the running for Grammy 2025 nominations.
To the fans’ disappointment, none of the K-pop stars made the list of nominees.
In 2023, BTS made history as the first K-pop group to secure nominations in multiple Grammy categories in a single year. Their nominations included Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “My Universe” (with Coldplay), Best Music Video for “Yet to Come,” and Album of the Year for their feature on Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres.”
Previously, BTS was the sole K-pop act to receive three consecutive Best Pop Duo/Group Performance nominations (2020-2022) since the category’s 2011 introduction. Their previous nominations were “Dynamite” (2020) and “Butter” (2021).
Although BTS has received multiple Grammy nominations, they have yet to receive an award. In response to the latest snub, fans are circulating SUGA’s humorous comment, “Isn’t that a local thing?” – a playful dig at the Grammys’ perceived limited scope.
On the bright side, K-pop fans have a lot to look forward to as year-end award ceremonies like KGMA, MAMA Awards, and Melon Music Awards are happening this month
