(G)I-DLE is getting embroiled in one controversy after another since the release of the 7th mini album, I SWAY, earlier this month.

Previously, they were criticized for wearing short clothes during promotional activities and in the performance video of the title track, Klaxon.

More recently, (G) I-DLE’s lifeguard-themed performance outfits have ignited controversy, with netizens accusing the group of sexualizing the profession and using the Red Cross symbol without permission.

The offending costumes were worn during the group’s performance of their new song Klaxon on KBS’s “Music Bank” on July 19. The outfits in question feature “LIFEGUARD” emblazoned on the clothing, along with red waist bags resembling first aid kits.

The members’ revealing costumes, including short red bottoms and crop tops, have fueled the backlash, with fans accusing the group of inappropriate and disrespectful styling.

The outfit was meant to evoke a cool summer beach vibe, but it instead sparked concerns and backlash from both the public and fans.

Most importantly, (G)I-DLE’s outfits sparked outrage for featuring the Red Cross symbol without authorization, a violation of the Korean National Red Cross’s strict usage guidelines.

Just two months prior, the organization launched a campaign to protect its emblem. The unauthorized use of the symbol can result in fines of up to 10 million won or penalties of up to 5 million won.
