The producers of the popular show ‘Good Day’, hosted by G-Dragon, have issued an apology for Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance. They promised to minimize his screen time in the future following a controversy surrounding his relationship with Kim Sae Ron, who he allegedly dated since she was a minor.
The decision comes after a backlash and calls for boycotts of the program from viewers. Despite the serious allegations, he made a partial appearance in the latest episode of the variety show “Good Day” aired on Sunday, March 16.
In response to protests from fans, the makers of the show released a lengthy statement, explaining the reason behind his appearance on the show. On February 17, the producers released an official statement, stating,
“We apologize for causing concern to our viewers. We understand the severity of the controversy surrounding our cast member and prioritize our viewers’ reactions as we continue production.
As ‘Good Day’ is a program that is pre-produced and translated for overseas broadcast, we typically film and edit episodes 1-2 weeks in advance. Regarding the 5th episode that aired yesterday, we hastily edited out Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance from the original broadcast version, which was already in translation, in consultation with MBC and global OTT platforms. As a result, the 5th episode was approximately 10 minutes shorter than usual, and some details were incomplete.
Regarding the recording on March 13, we waited for Kim Soo Hyun’s agency to release an official statement regarding the controversy. However, as the agency announced that they would issue a statement the following week, and considering the difficulty of securing the cast members’ schedules thereafter, we reluctantly proceeded with the recording.
We discussed the matter carefully and decided to minimize Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance. We tried to avoid any overlap with other cast members’ scenes. We apologize for causing concern to our viewers through this process.
As the controversy surrounding the cast member is expected to continue, we believe that the purpose of ‘Good Day’, which started with good intentions, and the hearts of the cast members who participated sincerely, as well as the love and support of our viewers, will be continually damaged.
The ‘Good Day General Meeting’ content, which was released in the second half of episode 5, was filmed on February 18, and the story will unfold over episodes 6-7. We have decided to minimize Kim Soo Hyun’s appearance as much as possible. The individual recording process of the cast member on March 13 will not be aired.
We will strive to provide enjoyable content for our viewers and carefully consider the feelings of our cast members. We will do our best to make ‘Good Day’ a program that can bring joy and happiness to our viewers.”
