Individuals who unlawfully sold flight ticket details for HYBE idols have been transferred to the authorities for further investigation.
On June 18, HYBE revealed the results of legal proceedings on its official website, stating, “We have cooperated closely with the investigative authorities for several months since the second half of last year.”
Personal flight information of idols belonging to HYBE has been leaked, leading to a serious invasion of privacy. Sasaeng fans have taken advantage of this leak, boarding the same flights as the idols and secretly taking pictures.
The agency revealed that Sasaeng fans are altering flight seats and meals without permission and constantly canceling and rebooking flights, causing chaos in the idols’ schedules and lives.
A separate task force was formed by HYBE to monitor their activities and bring the perpetrators to justice. They shared, “We judged that this was a problem that went beyond the level of an infringement on personal information and could threaten personal safety and cause airport and aircraft safety accidents.”
HYBE has collected extensive evidence of illegal flight ticket information sales on various social media platforms and has handed over identifying information about the offenders to the authorities.
According to them, the police have been conducting a thorough and ongoing investigation, both domestically and internationally, using the provided data. As a result, some suspects have been charged and referred to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office for further legal action.
The police investigation found that some individuals illegally sold artists’ flight info, making millions. HYBE is cracking down, vowing zero tolerance and full accountability for those responsible.
They’re teaming up with airlines and travel agencies to prevent future privacy breaches and will continue to work with others to keep artists’ personal info safe.
