Netflix has unveiled its upcoming action film Mantis, a highly anticipated spin-off of the 2023 hit Kill Boksoon. Directed by Lee Tae Seong and written by Byun Sung Hyun, the movie comes from SEE AT Film Co., the creative team behind acclaimed projects such as Kill Boksoon, Kingmaker, and Love and Leashes.

The movie also reunites Im Siwan and Park Gyu Young, who portrayed Player 333 and Guard 011 in Squid Game 2 and 3.

On August 27, the newly released teaser poster and trailer gave fans a first look at its stylish and brutal world of elite contract killers.

Netflix film, Mantis, starring Park Gyu Young and Im Siwan, is slated to premiere globally on September 26. Along with the release date, Netflix revealed a teaser poster featuring Han Ul, played by Im Siwan, dressed in a striking blood-red outfit that highlights “a new generation of rising killers.”

Han Ul, once the top killer at Korea’s largest hit-for-hire company, MK ENT, returns from a long absence to find the organization collapsing after its CEO’s death.

Determined to reclaim his dominance, he is forced into a fierce battle against his former trainee and rival Jae Yi, portrayed by Park Gyu Young, and legendary retired killer Dokgo, played by Jo Woo Jin.

The trailer begins with the chilling narration of MK ENT’s late CEO Cha Min Gyu, portrayed by veteran actor Sul Kyung Gu, as he lays out the rules of the assassination industry. What follows is a relentless clash among killers striving to become number one in a lawless arena where all order has broken down.

Im Siwan’s character is depicted as a merciless assassin whose weapon of choice—a terrifying sickle—matches his grim reputation. His fiery exchanges with Jae Yi, including the provocative line, “Aren’t I above you now?” and his sharp retort, “So you wanted to kill me?”, tease their complicated relationship.

Adding further tension is Jo Woo Jin’s Dokgo, a retired figure of legend whose sudden return threatens to overturn everything.

Meanwhile, Mantis can be streamed from September 26 on Netflix.
