The tvN romance drama I’m Against My Romance is currently going through major changes behind the scenes. The production team is reorganizing the project after several key figures left the show. Director Lee Eung Bok (Sweet Home, Goblin, Descendants of the Sun, Dear X) has stepped down. The team is now also looking for a director and new actors for both the male and female lead roles.
As reported by OSEN on December 19, actor Kim Jae Won is now finalizing talks to become the new male lead. He would replace Lee Jong Suk, who was originally cast in the role but exited the project due to schedule conflicts related to a film shoot. Lee has a packed schedule with the release of The Remarried Empress next year.
The production company has denied rumors that the drama was canceled and stated that the changes are part of a broader restructuring.
The female lead position is also vacant. Actress Go Min Si, who was previously attached to the project, has left as well. Go recently also withdrew from the Hong Sisters’ drama Grand Galaxy Hotel amid school violence allegations. With the director, male lead, and female lead all changing, the drama’s original production plan has been significantly altered. There is currently no confirmed filming schedule or broadcast date.
I’m Against My Romance is a romance drama about a man and a woman who reunite with their first loves. The story explores whether reconnecting with an ex is simply a continuation of the past or the beginning of a new relationship. The drama is still planned to air on tvN and will be produced by Studio Dragon.
Kim Jae Won has drawn attention for his emotional and detailed acting in several recent projects. He rose to fame with Netflix’s Hierarchy and later appeared in The Tale of Lady Ok, The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call, and You and Everything Else. Through these works, he has been known for portraying subtle emotions and complex characters.
His next confirmed project is season three of the tvING original series Yumi’s Cells. He will play Shin Soon Rok, who is the final love interest of the main character, Yumi. He will also appear in the 8-episode mystery thriller, The Art of Sarah, with Shin Hye Sun and Lee Jun Hyuk.
As for I’m Against My Romance, the production team is continuing discussions to complete the cast and appoint a new director. Further updates on filming and release plans are expected once the reorganization is complete.
