LE SSERAFIM had their second show at Coachella and undoubtedly stepped up their game from their previous performance.
Huh Yunjin energetically kicked off the second week’s stage of Coachella. The members appeared one by one as Good Bones played alongside the strong band sound.
The group then moved on to ANTIFRAGILE, followed by FEARLESS, The Great Mermaid, UNFORGIVEN, and Eve, Psyche and Bluebeard’s wife, Fire in the Belly, Perfect Night, Smart, EASY and unreleased track 1-800-HOT & FUN were also performed.
The setlist remained the same as last week, however, there was a change in the outfits.
Since the previous performance sparked discussions about the group’s singing skills, today’s show gave LE SSERAFIM a chance to put on a better show.
Most likely aware of the debate surrounding their abilities, the members showed stable live vocals and urged the audience to join in.
The crowd at the venue showed great excitement, but the live comment section was still abuzz. While vocalists Kim Chaewon and Huh Yunjin managed the stage more confidently than before, issues like pitch instability, breathing problems, and voices getting lost in the band’s sound resurfaced in the latter part of the performance.
Particularly, the AR sound and loud backtrack drew attention. As UNFORGIVEN kicked off, comments like “I hear a lot of AR” and “I hear two voices” flooded the live chat. When AR was muted during parts of members like Kazuha and Hong Eunchae, there were moments where the members’ voices couldn’t be heard at all.
LE SSERAFIM, just two years into their debut, achieved a remarkable feat by gracing Coachella in the shortest time among all K-pop artists. However, this achievement was overshadowed by harsh criticisms about their singing abilities, citing issues like unstable breathing and being out of tune.
They were compared to BLACKPINK, the headliners of last year’s Coachella, and ATEEZ, the first boy group to perform at this year’s Coachella. The controversy escalated further when Japanese member Sakura shared that it was the best stage they’ve ever shown.
