MONSTA X member I.M, 29, whose real name is Im Changkyun, is preparing to begin his mandatory military service. Starship Entertainment confirmed on January 12, 2026, that he will enlist on February 9 as an active-duty soldier in the Republic of Korea Army.
I.M will discharge on August 8, 2027, and MONSTA X is expected to resume activities in the fourth quarter of next year.
On the day of enlistment, I.M will enter a military training camp to begin basic training. There will be no official farewell event and Starship asked fans to avoid visiting the site. The label explained that this is necessary to ensure safety and smooth operations.
He is the final and youngest member to begin the mandatory military service. Older Members Shownu, Minhyuk, Kihyun, Hyungwon, and Joohoney have already enlisted and completed their duties.
There has been ongoing concern regarding I.M’s health. He has struggled with back pain for an extended period, and last summer his condition worsened enough that he had to pause activities and focus entirely on treatment.
Since then, he has been receiving regular rehabilitation, and his condition has improved significantly.
Starship Entertainment shared that recent medical evaluations confirmed that the idol can participate in performances, provided they are not overly demanding. Following this, the agency adjusted earlier plans that had limited his schedule.
As a result, I.M will take part in MONSTA X’s upcoming Seoul concerts for the “2026 MONSTA X WORLD TOUR [THE X : NEXUS].” The shows will take place from January 30 to February 1 at the KSPO Dome in Seoul.
