ENHYPEN and NewJeans took home major trophies at the 65th Japan Record Awards. It’s the ultimate music award in Japan, with the most history and respect.
The 65th Japan Record Awards was broadcast live on TBS in Japan on the afternoon of December 30. During the esteemed award ceremony, ENHYPEN and NewJeans were honored with significant awards.
ENHYPEN was honored with the prestigious Special International Music Award trophy, while NewJeans received both the Outstanding Work Award and the Special Award.
The Japan Record Awards has a rich history, starting way back in 1959 and organized by the Japan Composers Association. ENHYPEN became the third foreign artist to ever receive the prestigious Special International Music Award. Previously, this prestigious trophy was awarded to BTS and SEVENTEEN.
In addition, NewJeans made a splash at the Japan Record Awards 2023 by winning not one, but two awards. They received the Excellent Project Award, which recognizes songs released in the same year that are both popular with the public and showcase exceptional artistry, originality, and planning.
Their song Ditto became the first foreign song to ever win in this category. NewJeans also made history as the first foreign artist to be nominated for the Grand Prize. Although the grand prize went to a Japanese singer, NewJeans still walked away with two awards by receiving the Special Award, which is given to artists or songs that became hot topics during the year.
