It is an emotional day for CARATs!
Wonwoo has become the second SEVENTEEN member to enlist in the military. Previously, Jeonghan began his alternative service as a social service worker last September. Since then, the group has been promoted with 12 members, Jun could not participate in most activities in the second half of 2024.
Now, another SEVENTEEN member is temporarily saying goodbye to his fans to fulfill mandatory military obligations.
Wonwoo has officially enlisted in the military today, April 3, and will undergo basic military training before serving as a social worker for his alternative military service. He is scheduled to discharge on January 2, 2027.
Prior to his enlistment, the 28-year-old K-pop star left a heartfelt message for his fans, CARATs, on the fan platform Weverse:
Hello, Carats.
It was just a while ago that I said I would come back when it was so cold that my breath would block my eyes again, but it’s gotten a little warmer already.
Time really seems to pass quickly.
However, that means that the day we
meet again will come soon, so I hope Carats spend it with excitement rather than worry.
Please take good care of the other members, and take care of your health, do your homework well, and listen to the songs I have prepared.
I will also spend this brief break well. I can’t wait for the next hill that I will face with Carats.
I am always grateful and love you so much.
Wonwoo
SEVENTEEN fans are preparing for more bittersweet goodbyes as the group’s military enlistment era begins. Following Wonwoo, ‘96 liner members Woozi and Hoshi will enlist in the military.
During their annual fan meeting, “SEVENTEEN in Carat Land,” Wonwoo revealed that he will release two tracks and a cover song to honor his mother. Although the announcement about his enlistment was made a while ago, fans are still not ready to say goodbye.
SEVENTEEN kicked off the year with two unit releases, BSS’ “Teleparty” in January and Hoshi x Woozi’s “Beam” last month. The group will celebrate their 10th debut anniversary in May, however, two members Jeonghan and Wonwoo will not be part of the celebrations.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN is set to make history as the first K-pop act to perform at ‘Tecate Pa’l Norte 2025’, Mexico’s largest music festival, on April 4 (local time).
