While the backlash was intense, it seems tvN is standing firm on its decision to cast Park Sung Hoon in the upcoming drama ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’. Despite fans of YoonA and Korean netizens asking for a replacement, the network has confirmed that Park will remain on board.
The “Queen of Tears” actor outraged fans by sharing an explicit cover of “Squid Game” on his Instagram on December 30. Soon enough, his agency BH Entertainment apologized and explained the reason for sharing the controversial post.
The agency explained that Park Sung Hoon mistakenly shared the racy post while reading his DMs. An additional explanation came a couple of days later where the agency revealed that he saved the video to send it to the company to report and accidentally uploaded it on Instagram.
Despite the agency’s explanation, the 39-year-old actor continued to receive public backlash, especially from Korean netizens and fans of YoonA, who is the leading lady in “The Tyrant’s Chef.”
They urged tvN to reconsider the casting and replace him with another actor. When the script reading was canceled many thought that it might have something to do with Park Sung Hoon’s replacement.
Originally set to hold its script reading today, the event has been canceled. According to tvN, the decision was made to respect the national mourning period due to the Jeju Air tragedy.
Park Sung Hoon’s agency stated, “The script reading for ‘The Tyrant’s Chef’ was canceled due to a schedule adjustment in consideration of the national mourning period.”
